Today we are writing about “Poshak”. The epitome of Rajasthani fashion and culture combined. The tradition of wearing Poshak became a fashion statement with time passing from Queens to now the “theme parties of Poshak”.
It is known as Rajputi Poshak, Rajasthani Poshak as well. These names are given to this attire in reference to its belonging to the State of Rajasthan and mainly worn by the Rajput community.

The attire of Poshak is something you might’ve or might’ve not heard about. So, here we are telling you all about this elegant outfit. The design of Poshak is a fusion of Mughal and Rajasthani designs. It is a gift to India by the Mughals, this particular design was created to ensure that the “Purdah Pratha” or the “Veil System” is kept intact. This design has travelled along with the history to the present times. It was a Royal outfit and it still holds its royalty.
For making the Poshak, it starts from choosing the material of the cloth. It can be either pure Chiffon or Georgette or Crape. After choosing the fabric, it is dyed in rainbow colours and then we wait for the colours to settle down.
Once this part is done then those dyed clothes undergo magical artistry.

There are unlimited designs for making Poshak, but it can usually be found in 4 different patterns:
Zardosi Poshak embroidery mainly involves the use of gold and silver threads to create wonderful designs on the cloth. The threads are not exactly made of gold and silver, it is the polished copper threads which gives the perfect finishing to the Poshak. After this pearls and other stones are sewn on the heritage clothing.
Gota Patti Poshak art was originated from Rajasthan. Back in the history, the dresses of Kings and Queens were decorated with the Gota Patti design which consisted of real the real gold and silver metals but as the time passed and metals became expensive, the use of such precious metals have been decreased to Zari Ribbon which is also known as the “Kinari Work”
Zari Poshak has its roots in Banaras, it is made of the brocade of tinsel threads which magnifies the beauty of Poshak in an inexpressible manner.

Kundan Poshak is an exceptional form of art, in this design of Poshak, the Kundan stones are added to the highly refined gold threads and then it is put on the Royal Clothing. This makes the Poshak even more glorious.
Poshak constitutes of 4 pieces of clothing: Kanchali (innerwear blouse), Kurti (sleeveless top), Ghagra (pleated skirt) and Odhni (the long veil).

Centuries old fashion is still intact with the moderns world. People have shifted from traditional to modern day clothing but the fashion statement of Marwar is still the rainbow coloured Poshaks.
Rajasthan has its roots deep inside the culture and heritage and that’s exactly what makes it so beautiful.
“Poshak” the carrier of heritage, culture, fashion and royalty.
Its not just an outfit, its an expression of elegance.
